Enchanted Native Woodland
Over the course of two years, we partnered with the homeowner to design & build a variety of unique spaces on her four acre woodland. We designed a front meadow on a difficult slope, a driveway screen planting, a woodland walk, unique native foundation plantings, a ravine trail, and a rear yard screening and sitting area. The steep slopes on the property was an accepted challenge and presented a wonderful opportunity to use native plants to quickly stabilize the soil. We also used 100 % biodegradable jute mesh and ground stakes made from a recycled plant resin.
Field Notes
Deep rooted switchgrass, little bluestem, side oats gramma, and prairie dropseed were planted to soften the stone steps cutting through the steep front slope.
Soil stabilization techniques & proper plant selection were key elements
Understory, native trees & shrubs were used to screen the entrance drive
Sweet fern, little bluestem and purple love grass were used in poor soils to minimize soil remediation efforts.
